All Hands,
The May field day saw us crew the ship with
Massachusetts Maritime Academy students, Navy veterans, and our large
contingent of civilian enthusiasts. We had many destroyer veterans
aboard joined by our large youth movement.
The team accomplished a lot of projects and upkeep on
our veteran destroyer with both fresh paint and continued preservation
efforts of never restored areas internally. We cannot thank the
following people enough for their dedication and support:

Work Accomplished:
Starboard side Main Deck
1. Prep, prime, paint main deck bulkheads from fwd expansion joint to
fantail.
Port side Hull/Main deck
1. Prep, prime, paint main deck bulkheads from fwd expansion joint to
fantail.
2. Prep, prime, paint Amidships to fantail hull and prop guard
3. Repaint of 850 on port side stern.
ASROC Deck
1. Prep, prime, paint ASROC rail locker
2. Display highline chair on top of ASROC Control Station
3. Prep, prime, paint majority ASROC Control station
4. Welded ASROC crane rail guides and prep, prime, paint same. Guides
from USS Charles F. Adams DDG-2
5. Welded stanchion on ASROC deck
Signal Deck level:
1. Sweep and wash down of Signal deck
2. Repaint of MK37 Gun Director, voice tube, and other equipment.
3. Prep and prime of required deck areas.
Fantail
1. Painted aft half of fantail
2. Paint flagstaff and boat winch cover
3. Prep and prime of all required areas of fantail
Aft Superstructure/DASH Hangar
1. Fresh water wash down of both DASH helicopter
2. Touchup of DASH hangar bulkheads
3. Repaint of hangar deck
4. Removed unnecessary items and placed historic items for display.
5. Painted Aft and starboard bulkhead of Aft Superstructure
Anchor Windlass
1. Continuation of Top Coating Anchor Windlass Equipment Room.
B3 After Fireroom
1. Stripped stainless area of Boiler 3 and 4 of paint that was
incorrectly placed there by volunteers years ago
2. Installed water level sight glass on upper level of B3 Aft Fireroom.

3. Stripped burner barrels and burner fronts; polished same
General Restoration and Maintenance tasks:
1. Relamp and electrical work in B2 FWD Engine room, Capt Sea Cabin,
and Post Office.
2. Cutout and old display removal of Burke Destroyer museum
3. Place fire hose on racks on main deck.
4. Manned the paint locker and organized supplies for the field day
5. Cooked meals for a hungry crew
6. Mounted searchlights and canvas for summer
7. Provide tours to visitors.
8. Rope work on w/t door handles by the ASROC Control station, B3 Aft
Fire Room handrails, and giving out monkey fist key chains to
volunteers.
9. Prep and touch-up of Pilot House
10. Teak wood sanding and varnishing on both Bridge Wings
11. Electrical review and maintenance of Galley oven electrical box.
12. Reinstall Laundry locker in Fox Division berthing
13. Installed Barber Shop Mirror and painted it
14. Placed “barbicide” liquid with combs in Barbicide jar in barber
shop
15. Continuation of bulkhead painting in CPO Mess and Lounge
16. Mt 51 Refresh prep and paint
